The 2007 Open over the formidable links of Carnoustie provided four days of dramatic play in one of the most memorable Championships of the modern era.

Defending champion Tiger Woods, bidding for his third successive Open title as the world's leading players gathered for the 136th Champsionship, was to be denied matching a record that stood for more then 50 years.

Sergio Garcia had a firm grip on the Claret Jug as he led from the first round deep into the final day, but he faced an unrelenting challenge from a host of young and established players in the battle for the worlds oldest golfing title.

The course record was equalled, superb shot making roused great cheers from all parts of the course and some of the most remarkable golfing stories were written.
