As briefly produced for and aired on the BBC, the adventure drama series Bonekickers follows the daredevil exploits of a cadre of archaeologists. The program, the brainchild of Life on Mars creators Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah, hones in on a team that includes the sweet-natured archaeology scholar Dr. Ben Ergha (Adrian Lester), the icy and emotionally troubled Dr. Gillian Magwilde (Julie Graham), and the slightly uncouth, adventure-seeking explorer Professor Gregory Parton (Hugh Bonneville). Stories, many of which found the trio unearthing a different legendary artifact each week, involved everything from a piece of Jesus' cross, to evidence that the entire history of the U.S. is inaccurate and needs to be revised, to contact with a group of racist Christian evangelists who burn crosses underground and behead Muslims. Despite all of the cliff-hanging adventure, audiences didn't particularly take to this series, and the BBC canceled it after one season.
