The B-29 Superfortress was the most technologically advanced bomber developed during World War II. Originally conceived and developed by Boeing to fight a trans-Altantic air war, the B-29 proved instead to be of vital strategic importance in the Pacific Theater. Developed and brought into operational service in an extremely short period of time, it greatly contributed to the success of the Allies over the Japanese Empire, and delivered two atomic bombs that finally led to Japan's unconditional surrender.
