When Social Status Is At Stake, Hyacinth Still Knows How To Keep Up Appearances!

The original doyenne of domesticity, Hyacinth Bucket ('Bouquet,' but of course!) takes her bow in these concluding episodes of the fifth and final season of the hilariously classy comedy of manners. Hyacinth remains busy terrorizing the neighbors, tidying up her unruly family and fawning over her dear Daddy, yet still finds the time to exercise her singing skills and hold fetes for the candlelight supper set while imbuing her gracious entertaining skills on others.

General Bucket
Convinced that Emmet is too overawed by her personality to invite her to join the cast of a musical, Hyacinth invites her dear neighbors over for coffee and bursts into impromptu snatches of 1920s musicals. Meanwhile, Daisy tries to seduce Onslow and Daddy is reliving the war.

A Bon Vivant Buffet
Although the musical for which she had auditioned is already fully cast. Hyacinth is convinced that Emmet is only too shy to offer her a part. She drafts a plan to pluck up his courage by inviting him to Violet's home (the one with the sauna and room for a pony) for a "bon vivant buffet" and barbecue sing-a-long.

A Crafts-Woman Scorned
Hyacinth is absolutely scandalized when she loses first prize at the local craft fair for her "free style floral decoration of a table centerpiece." To make matters worse, the winner is none other than Lydia Hawksworth, a lady who Hyacinth found to be objectionable at one of her candlelight suppers.

Scintillating Socializing
Hyacinth may yet become the Barbara Cortland of the West Midland social circuit scene. She takes out an ad for her new business, which aims to advise and educate the nation on gracious entertaining and social etiquette, lit incandescently by their own candlelight suppers.
